The start of training camp is around two weeks away for all 32 NFL teams, give or take a few days. With free agency, the draft and all major offseason moves in the books, we have a clear view of every team’s roster. That means predictions and power rankings for the 2023 NFL season.

Touchdown Wire recently revealed its pre-training camp power rankings. No surprise, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles topped the list.

Where were the Washington Commanders?

No. 22. Touchdown Wire explains the ranking:

The biggest unknown in the league right now is Washington quarterback Sam Howell, who the Commanders have dumped a ton of faith into to open next season. While the Commanders have a solid base team, if Sam Howell does not play way beyond his draft status, Washington could be in for a tough year.

That’s hard to dispute. Howell is a relative unknown with only one career start. Howell doesn’t even need to play WAY beyond his draft status. He needs to play better than Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke did in 2022. While Heinicke is beloved in Washington, that’s not necessarily a high bar.
