Where are the Chiefs on NFL’s waiver wire order?

The #Chiefs have until 11:00 a.m. CT to submit waiver claims to the NFL.

With Tuesday’s roster cuts deadline in the rearview, NFL teams have now turned their attention to the ways they can improve their 53-man roster. The Kansas City Chiefs, in particular, put a lot of effort and focus into evaluating players on other teams during the preseason. That way, should the opportunity present itself, the team can make improvements.

One of those opportunities is for the team to submit a claim on players waived during 53-man roster cuts on Tuesday. Players with fewer than four accrued seasons will be subject to the NFL’s waiver system.

Unfortunately for Brett Veach and his staff, they’ll have to get quite lucky if they’re to submit a successful claim. The waiver order is based on the order from last year’s standings (aka the 2022 NFL Draft order). That makes the Chiefs 30th out of 32 teams in terms of waiver priority. 29 NFL teams will have to pass on claiming a player for K.C. to successfully claim a player.

They recently tried to claim former Rams TE Kendall Blanton, but the Washington Commanders also submit a claim. The Commanders have a higher waiver wire priority and were awarded Blanton off waivers as a result. That’s also notable because Blanton was waived during 53-man roster cuts and could be a target again on Wednesday.

The Chiefs have until 11:00 a.m. CT to file waiver claims with the NFL on Wednesday, August 31st. Players who aren’t claimed on waivers at that point will become unrestricted free agents and may sign with teams freely.
