When it comes to deep-ball passing, PFF considers Kirk Cousins around average

Pro Football Focus ranked Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins 15th overall in deep-ball passing. Fair or foul?

Kirk Cousins was ranked among the better deep-ball passing quarterbacks on Touchdown Wire earlier this week.

Pro Football Focus does not rate Cousins as high as Touchdown Wire. When PFF ranked each quarterback in terms of their deep-ball passing, Cousins came in at 15th overall.

Here’s what it said about the choice to place Cousins in the middle of the pack:

“Cousins’ overall deep numbers weren’t spectacular, but when he hit on a shot it tended to be an absolute dime. Cousins had 16 big-time throws on his 61 deep attempts and suffered from three drops on those deep passes. A highlight reel of only his best deep passes would be as good as that from any quarterback in the league, but he missed on more than he should have given his ability to make those passes.”

Overall, I’d say Cousins has a pretty good deep ball, but even if he does miss on some opportunities, at least the Vikings have Justin Jefferson for 2020, who thrives on short completions, as well as the occasional deep pass.

The outlet listed Cousins stats as follows: 39.3% completion percentage, 14.1 yards per attempt and a 119.7 Passer Rating.
