With the 2020 NFL Draft going virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic, it forced NFL clubs to draft from the comfort of their own homes. As usual, there were cameras inside team war rooms — only, there were multiple rooms.
ESPN and NFL Network had cameras on general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy, and record audiences were introduced to their personal lives with their in-home set-ups.
While Pace had a modest set-up in his dining room, Nagy’s was a tad, uh, more extravagant.

Obviously, people had plenty to say about Nagy’s set-up.

How cool, Matt Nagy’s walls are wallpapered with the names of every quarterback the team has started during the Favre-Rodgers era in Green Bay. pic.twitter.com/MpL4wpyp6L

Ryan Pace – “Matt it looks great here. Stephanie put the globe chandelier up, we’re all ready to go!”
Matt Nagy – “No way! I kicked everyone out and went True detective in this motherf***er. Just me and Papa Bear.”

So what exactly is going on with this room?
Naturally, this was a hot topic during a conference call with Nagy and reporters, and they got the answer.
“What that is, it’s all my 2018 call sheets from Chicago,” Nagy said. “We were trying to figure out what to do, where to put them, a couple years ago. We decided that down there in the basement is a good little spot in one of our rooms in the basement. That room hasn’t been used very much. That first night, things were very tight quarters in my office. So I figured to open it up a little bit and let the kids run around. So, that’s what that is.”
Bears fans remember the 2018 season well. That was Nagy’s first year as head coach in Chicago, and he led his team to a 12-4 record, a NFC North championship and the team’s first playoff berth in nearly a decade. His immediate success earned him NFL Coach of the Year honors.
Obviously his follow-up wasn’t as impressive, as the Bears stumbled to an 8-8 finish just one year after they were poised for a deep playoff run. That had to do with the offense’s struggles, which is exactly what Nagy was brought in to fix. That, and groom quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. And, well, we’ve seen how well that’s worked out.
