What’s next for Philip Rivers after retirement?

Rivers is ready to be a HS football coach.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday, calling it a career after 17 seasons. With that chapter of his life over, what’s next for Rivers?

The 39-year-old will now be the head coach of St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama. He was named the coach-in-waiting last year after he signed a one-year deal with the Colts during free agency.

As Rivers opens up this portion of his post-playing career, the potential Hall of Famer will report on April 1 to prepare as the head coach.

While Rivers has his own plans, the Colts now have to figure out which direction they want to go in. Jacob Eason is the only quarterback left on the roster with a contract as both Rivers and Jacoby Brissett are free agents.

There are a few options the Colts could explore this offseason. They could look to the draft, make a trade or sign a free agent if a viable one becomes available.

But while all that is going on, Rivers will be working as the head coach on Friday nights after calling it a career in the NFL.
