Don’t expect anything resembling a normal training camp over the next week.
The first six days of training camps around the NFL will be much different in 2020. All teams, including the Green Bay Packers, will use the first few days to focus on making sure players are fully tested and healthy as they return to the facilities amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
Footballs won’t be required.
As highlighted by Brian McCarthy of the NFL, three of the first four days of this year’s camp will involve nothing but testing for COVID-19. Players must pass three different tests before they’ll be allowed into the facility. Teams will also be providing virtual COVID-19 education during the first four days. Only virtual football meetings will be allowed.
After the first four days, daily COVID-19 testing will begin for all players.
The Packers are officially reporting for the start camp on Tuesday.
Players will be tested on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Each player needs three negative COVID-19 tests in a four-day window before they’re allowed into Lambeau Field on Saturday for physicals and equipment fitting.
Something resembling football won’t begin until early August. In fact, real practices aren’t scheduled until Aug. 12 at the earliest.
