Another list of the top 100 players in the NFL season has been unveiled, this time by ESPN. And like the list released previously by the NFL Network, ESPN’s list of the top 100 NFL players includes a pair of Penn State’s all-time leading receivers.
Allen Robinson, of the Chicago Bears, is ranked No. 68 on ESPN’s list of the top 100 players in the NFL this season. Chris Godwin, of the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is ranked No. 77.
Robinson has proven himself to be one of the most-trusted veteran wide receivers the Bears have to rely on, and he should be an asset to rookie Bears quarterback Justin Fields, from Ohio State, this season.
Godwin may not be the No. 1 guy in the Bucs passing game with Tom Brady at the helm, but he has established himself as a valuable asset to the Tampa Bay offense and should continue to develop into a guy that some can see as a potential No. 1 receiver, whether in Tampa or elsewhere in the future.
Noticeably absent from ESPN’s list is former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. Barkley was also omitted from the top 100 players list released by NFL Network. Because of Barkley’s injury last season and his status going into the 2021 season still a legitimate concern given his position, it is understandable why Barkley may have been left off ESPN’s list of the top 100 players right now.
Also, like the NFL Network list, rookie linebacker Micah Parsons is in a position where he needs to live up to the hype before receiving consideration for a spot in the top 100 list. Rookies rarely make the initial cut heading into the preseason on these types of lists, especially on defense.
