What to know about 2023 NFL schedule release

There are a few changes to this season and we will find out some games before the formal announcement Thursday night.

The NFL will announce its 2023 schedule this week.

It hoped to be able to do so on Thursday, May 11, and now it is official. It will happen at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday.

There are a few wrinkles to this year’s scheduling, as shared by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

  • There will be a Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) game for the first time ever.
  • Teams can play a Thursday night game twice in a season.
  • Teams are not guaranteed prime-time games.
  • Specific games/conferences no longer belong to particular TV networks.

With the Arizona Cardinals expected to struggle this season and to be without quarterback Kyler Murray for at least the start of the season, they might be a team that doesn’t get featured in prime time.

Some games will be revealed before the full schedule show.

  • On Wednesday, May 10, the international games will be announced.
  • Also on Wednesday, the Black Friday game will be announced.
  • Select individual games will also be announced on Fox and Friends and CBS Mornings on Wednesday
  • On Thursday morning on the Today Show and Good Morning America, other select games will be announced.
