What is the ideal Divisional round series of events for the Dolphins?

What outcome of events would be best for the Miami Dolphins in the NFL’s divisional round of the playoffs?

The Miami Dolphins have the vast majority of their 2020 NFL Draft arsenal locked into place — we’re just waiting on one big domino to fall: the Houston Texans. With the Texans’ win last week against the Buffalo Bills, Miami’s third and final 1st-round pick of the 2020 NFL Draft still remains undefined, though we know the pick will fall between 25th and 32nd in the order.

How does this pick end up at 25? Miami needs to see several boxes checked in order to get maximum possible value out of their first asset received in return for Laremy Tunsil.

Here’s what an ideal NFL Divisional Round of the 2020 playoffs looks like for the Miami Dolphins:

  • The Houston Texans lose in Arrowhead Stadium to the Kansas City Chiefs, eliminating the Texans
  • The Minnesota Vikings upset the San Francisco 49ers, moving 10-6 Minnesota into the final 4
  • The Tennessee Titans upsetting the Baltimore Ravens, moving 9-7 Tennessee into the final 4

The result of the NFC’s Seattle/Green Bay tilt will have no impact on the Texans’ pick if Houston wins. But if San Fransisco and Baltimore were to win with a Houston loss this weekend, the Houston pick would finish 27th in the NFL Draft order.

And, of course, should the Texans win, Miami’s third 1st-round pick will fall no higher than 28th in the NFL Draft order. So yes, the Dolphins are doing playing football. But there’s still plenty to root for and plenty to watch in the NFL playoffs this season — Miami’s leverage for the third member of their 2020 NFL Draft class depends on it.
