What is Penn State’s over/under win total in 2023?

Are you taking the over on this Penn State win total for the 2023 college football season?

Spring football practices are beginning to hit the back-end of the schedule for Penn State, with the annual Blue-White Game quickly approaching. As the spring continues to unfold, looking ahead to the fall continues from all angles. One angle of interest is Penn State’s expected win total for the upcoming season, and a confident and optimistic Penn State fan may like what they are seeing from one popular sportsbook when it comes to the over/under figure for the Nittany Lions this season.

According to the current win total figures from FanDuel, Penn State is entering the 2023 season with an over/under of 9.5 wins on the board. That feels like a good figure for the Nittany Lions.

If you read my way-too-early (or way-too-optimistic) game-by-game predictions for the season, then you already know this is a number I feel is worth jumping all over as quickly as you can. And since 2016, Penn State has played four seasons with 11 wins with just two full non-COVID seasons falling below a mark of 9.5 wins (9 wins in 2018 and 7 wins in 2021).

Penn State will open the season as a pretty big favorite at home against West Virginia, and a way-too-early spread from FanDuel has Penn State as a double-digit favorite at home against Iowa. Penn State figures to be the favorite for just about every regular season game with the exception of a road game at Ohio State and, potentially, a home game against Michigan. Ohio State has had Penn State’s number over the years and Michigan has been the two-time defending Big Ten champ the past two seasons, beating Penn State each of those seasons.

Of course, just because a team is favored doesn’t guarantee a victory. But if Penn State is favored for at least 10 of their 12 regular season wins, taking the over 9.5 win total feels like a fairly good bet to make.

This is especially true if you feel an 11-1 season is incoming.
