What are the expectations for Bronny James’ USC debut?

Showtime for Bronny.

USC men’s basketball hasn’t produced an electric start to its season. The Trojans don’t have any especially bad losses on their resume, but they only have a win over Kansas State as a particularly positive achievement through one month of play. The Trojans need to be better, and everyone inside the program knows it. Bronny James could be just the thing to help USC perform at a higher level.

USC’s offense has struggled. If Boogie Ellis isn’t scoring, the Trojans aren’t getting a reliable source of offense. Isaiah Collier has had some problems taking care of the ball. Kobe Johnson, slowed down by injuries, has not hit his stride as an offensive performer. The Trojans’ biggest problem has been the inability to find a regularly productive big man at both ends of the court. Josh Morgan has been a very good shot blocker, but he has had a hard time scoring. Vince Iwuchukwu is still not all the way back to full strength after a back problem limited his ability to practice in the offseason.

Bronny James can step onto this roster and relieve pressure for everyone. He will be on a minutes restriction against Long Beach State in his USC debut on Sunday afternoon, but even 10 productive minutes might give this team a new sense of what is possible at both ends of the court. The game starts just after 1 p.m. in Los Angeles and will be shown on Pac-12 Network.
