What an all-Wisconsin NFL defensive starting lineup would look like

Yesterday I put together an all-Wisconsin Badger NFL offensive starting lineup, a unit headlined by Russell Wilson, Melvin Gordon…

Inside linebacker: TJ Edwards, Joe Schobert

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants

T.J. Edwards entered the NFL in 2019 as an undrafted free agent and showed flashes during his rookie season of the potential to become difference maker for defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and the Philadelphia Eagles.

The former Badger began by playing primarily on special teams but stepped into a starting role late in the season after injuries to the guys in front of him on the depth chart, and finished the campaign with a ProFootballFocus grade of 86.6, good for the team’s best at the position.

He now is slated to start for Doug Pederson‘s team when the season kicks off and this offseason has been receiving love from all over the football media landscape, including an impressive film breakdown and having Matt Miller call him the most underrated player on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Schobert, on the other hand, is a four-year NFL veteran and three-year starter. In 2017 he led the NFL in tackles with 144 and now enters his fifth year having made one Pro Bowl and having recorded six interceptions, 20 passes defended, seven forced fumbles, 8.5 sacks, 19 quarterback hits and an insane 408 total tackles.

Schobert would bring the experience and consistent tackling production necessary to aid the players up front as well as Edwards next to him in shutting down opposing offenses.

As I said at the end of the outside linebacker segment, this front seven of Edwards, Schobert, T.J. Watt, J.J. Watt, Zack Baun and Beau Allen would form a lethal combination for opposing offenses. When you see the secondary coming up it’ll become clear that this defense will need all the help up front they can get, as none of the four players in the secondary are slated to be starters at their position this upcoming season.
