What Aaron Rodgers reportedly said about his unhappiness with the Packers

Aaron Rodgers spoke with Mike Tirico at the Kentucky Derby about his situation with Green Bay.

Hours before the 2021 NFL Draft began Thursday, news broke that Aaron Rodgers is unhappy with the Packers. As ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that afternoon, Rodgers “is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team”.

Rodgers was among the athletes and celebrities at Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, and he spoke with NBC Sports’ Mike Tirico about the latest situation with his team.

Although the reigning NFL MVP gave at least one on-camera interview specifically talking about the first leg of the Triple Crown, he declined to talk on camera about Green Bay with NBC.

But here’s what Tirico reported Rodgers said to him.

Tirico explained:

“I can tell you — characterize Aaron as disappointed that news has come out of this rift with the Packers. He expressed a couple of times how much he loves Green Bay, loves the fans, loves the franchise. There is a fissure. There is a chasm between management and the reigning NFL MVP. We’re just not sure how this is going to play out.”

As Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson reported Saturday:

The reigning league MVP remains adamant that he won’t return to the team under the current stewardship of general manager Brian Gutekunst, a source in Rodgers’ camp said, and that he’s willing to weigh hardline options at his disposal — from refusing to show up for offseason activities to holding out of training camp and possibly retirement.

So, Rodgers’ future right now remains TBD.
