Week 4 Mountain West Football Power Rankings

Week 4 Mountain West Football Power Rankings Then there were two Contact/Follow @JeremyMauss & @MWCwire Fresno State is pulling away Week five is just around the corner so lets do a quick ranking of the Mountain West teams after four weeks of …

The Falcons and Bulldogs are the only teams to earn a first-place vote this week and are ruining away with the top two spots, at least for this week.

It is Fresno State who has the grip of the majority of the these votes. They do have a voter who puts them third behind Air Force and Boise State. The Bulldogs did snag three more first-place votes and outgained the Falcons nine to three in that category.

What will be fascinating is that neither Fresno State or Air Force face off, and while it is very early, how awesome would it be if both are undefeated on conference championship weekend.

12. Nevada (PV: 12)

There is really nothin great about this team. QB play is questionable, running backs are doing much, and the defense could get taken advantage of big time this week vs. Fresno State.

11. New Mexico (PV: 11)

The Lobos winning on the road is a good thing, even if it is against one of the worst teams in the FBS in UMass. New Mexico just needs wins.

10. Hawaii (PV: 10)

Get the running game going and this team could surprise a few.

9. San Jose State (PV: 8)

This team is underachieving and maybe the off week after giving up all the points against Air Force in the second half will get them right.

8. Utah State (PV: 7)

They are clearly a second half team and coach Blake Anderson needs to light a fire to get this team going early. When the Aggies are moving the ball in the air with freshman QB McCae Hillstead they look good. Consistency is key.

7. Colorado State (PV: 9)

QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi looks to be the real deal as does tight end Dallin Holker who is lighting up the conference. Get a running game going and this team can be frisky.

6. San Diego State (PV: 5)

Are we wrong to say that the Aztecs aren’t a great team but just OK? They hung with Boise State last week and Jalen Mayden put up 241 yards. The defense is just fine and the offense is just not exciting.

5. UNLV (PV: 6)

The Rebels routed UTEP with backup quarterback Jayden Maiava in for the injured Doug Brumfield. This Hawaii game at home will see where the Rebels are with this Warriors game being an off-the-wall rivalry.

4. Boise State (PV: 4)

This Broncos team will go as far as Ashton Jenty takes them running the ball. Getting George Holani back would help, as would a passable secondary.

3. Wyoming (PV: 3)

If Wyoming had any sort of passing on offense this team probably could have beaten Texas. Defense will keep them around but the offense needs to somehow figure something out to move the ball in the air.

2. Air Force (PV: 2, 3 first-place vote)

This might be obvious to say as the Falcons site are No. 2. They could be the best team as they have a three-headed backfield that is playing very well.

1. Fresno State (PV: 1, 9 first-place votes)

There are concerns with their red zone offense, playing Nevada should help with that.
