Even though the Washington Huskies earned the No. 22 spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll after their 30-9 victory over the Eastern Michigan Eagles, coach Jedd Fisch’s team has a lot of work to do to gain the favor of AP Poll voters from around the country.
The Huskies remained unranked in the latest edition of the polls and didn’t gain much ground despite a 261-yard, 4-touchdown performance from quarterback Will Rogers and a 7-sack day from defensive coordinator Steve Belichick’s group.
In fact, the Huskies gained just three points in the polls. After their Week One win over Weber State, the Huskies earned 20 points from the voters and placed at No. 32 in the nation.
Following another dominant showing against Eastern Michigan, Washington tallied just 23 points and rose to No. 31 in the extended rankings. However, Fisch’s team was leapfrogged by another team with the same mascot as the Northern Illinois Huskies after they walked into South Bend and upset No. 5 Notre Dame 16-14.
As Washington prepares for the annual Apple Cup matchup with Washington State, this time at Lumen Field, these rankings could give Fisch’s team a little extra motivation to make a statement against their in-state rivals.
