The good news is disaster will have to strike in the final week for our picks to fall below .500 for the season. The bad news is Week 17 is the most volatile week of the year since some teams rest starters, other teams not in the playoff chase have checked out, and a slew of other intangible situations that making picking correctly much more difficult.
Week 16 record: 8-8
Season record: 123-114
To the picks!
Point spreads were provided by Bet MGM. (HOME TEAM in all caps).
Cleveland (-2.5) vs. CINCINNATI
It’s actually a little sad to think of where the Browns were four months ago compared to where they are now.
Pick: Browns (-2.5)
MINNESOTA (-4.5) vs. Chicago
The Vikings are probably not going to try that hard with a road playoff game against a good NFC team looming in a week.
Pick: Bears (+4.5)
TAMPA BAY (-0.5) vs. Atlanta
Both of these teams will have a lot of hype through the offseason depending on how they play their cards. The Jameis Winston decision is going to be the biggest difference-maker though.
Pick: Falcons (+0.5)
New Orleans (-12.5) vs. CAROLINA
The Saints need a win here to possibly snag the No. 1 seed in the NFC, while the Panthers appear to have checked all the way out. Christian McCaffrey could set a couple records though.
Pick: Saints (-12.5)
New York Jets (-0.5) vs. BUFFALO
Even a Bills team that isn’t trying should be able to beat the Jets.
Pick: Bills (+0.5)
NEW ENGLAND (-17.5) vs. Miami
Poor Dolphins. The fact they won any games this year though is remarkable.
Pick: Patriots (-17.5)
Green Bay (-12.5) vs. DETROIT
Poor Lions. The fact Matt Patricia still has a head coaching job though is remarkable.
Pick: Packers (-12.5)
KANSAS CITY (-9.5) vs. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chiefs are quietly becoming a real threat to win the Super Bowl.
Pick: Chiefs (-9.5)
Tennessee (-7.5) vs. HOUSTON
Bill O’Brien said the Texans will play their starters. That’s very doubtful considering they’re locked into the fourth seed if the Chiefs win. Also, the Titans need a win to make the playoffs.
Pick: Titans (-7.5)
Indianapolis (-6) vs. JACKSONVILLE
The Colts still have an outside shot at the playoffs while the Jags fired their head coach yesterday, but will wait until after the game to make him leave. Yikes.
Pick: Colts (-6)
DALLAS (-13) vs. Washington
The Cowboys stink. This should be Jason Garrett’s last game.
Pick: Cowboys (-13)
Philadelphia (-4.5) vs. NEW YORK GIANTS
The Eagles winning the NFC East with like, a former quarterback and a couple season ticket holders at wide receiver would be hilarious.
Pick: Eagles (-4.5)
Pittsburgh (-2.5) vs. BALTIMORE
The Ravens aren’t playing their starters, but even the Ravens’ backups might be good enough to knock off Duck Hodges and the Steelers.
Pick: Ravens (+2.5)
LOS ANGELES RAMS (-6.5) vs. Arizona
Kyler Murray is going to be one of the biggest stories of the offseason regardless of how this game goes.
Pick: Rams (-6.5)
DENVER (-3.5) vs. Oakland
The Raiders have an outside shot at making the playoffs, but divisional road games are never easy. Their road to a miracle playoff run probably ends in Denver.
Pick: Broncos (-3.5)
San Francisco (-3.5) vs. SEATTLE
This is the biggest game for the 49ers since their NFC title game loss in Seattle in 2014.
Pick: Seahawks (+3.5)
