Week 11 Mountain West Football Power Rankings

Week 11 Mountain West Football Power Rankings Four teams earned a first-place vote Contact/Follow @MWCwire Boise State expands its lead The only big change this week and upset saw San Diego State defeat San Diego State to make things interesting in …

As for the rankings, Boise State remains at the top for another week as they easily took care of rival Nevada in a snow game Saturday night. They strengthen their lead over the league but Air Force and Fresno State each hold a single first-place vote as we exit Week 11 and move on to Week 12 of the season.

The middle mess of teams like Air Force, Fresno State, San Jose State, and now San Diego State make this week’s rankings quite interesting and the theme remains of little separation.

12. Nevada (LW: 12, 14 points)

The snow game and blowout loss was tough to watch for Wolf Pack fans. The season and the next one, maybe two, could be a long haul for Ken Wilson.

11. New Mexico (LW: 10,  21 points)

Same story. The defense does an OK job but the offense just can’t get anything going. Playing Air Force is tough and 35 points is a lot for this usually stellar defense.

10. Hawaii (LW: 11, 26 points)

The one thing about the Warriors is that they are still not an easy out at home. This team shows up good some weeks and then not so good in other weeks. The offense looked good vs. Utah State with 34 points scored and Brayden Schager eclipsed 300 yards this year.

9. Colorado State (LW: 10, points)

Despite all of the transfers and even more this past week, the Rams are not giving up and nearly pulled off an upset over rival Wyoming, losing 14-13.

8. UNLV (LW: 8, 55 points)

After the flourishing start, if the Rebels don’t go bowling it would be a pretty big disappointment for Marcus Arroyo.

7. Utah State (LW: 7, 60 points)

The Aggies are back in the bowl mix at 4-6 but their final two games are against San Jose State and Boise State. The team did a nice turnaround after early season losses but seems like too tall of a task to get to six wins.

6. San Jose State (LW: 3, 73 points)

The Spartans are a good team but not good enough and now are on the outside looking in, even more than last week, to get to its second Mountain title game in three years.

4. San Diego State (LW: 6, 86 points)

Dare we say the Aztecs have a passing offense?!?! QB Jalen Mayden had a career day with 268 passing yards, three touchdowns with one pick. Plus, he ran for 61 on his own.

4. Wyoming (LW: 5, 86 points)

A close call vs. rival Colorado State, so we can give them a pass. They will need to be on their game this week against Boise State.

3. Air Force (LW: 3, 1 first-place vote, 98 points)

The Falcons got back to scoring all the points with a four-plus touchdown win over New Mexico. They can’t win the division but they are one of the best teams in the league.

2. Fresno State (LW: 4, 1 first-place vote, 105 points)

Things are clicking in the Central Valley with another win and week of being healthy after its 37-30 win over UNLV.

1. Boise State (LW: 1, 8 first-place vote, 118 points)

What can we say? They are peaking at the right time and just took it to Nevada on their home turn in Reno.
