Week 1 Mountain West Football Power Rankings

Week 1 Mountain West Football Power Rankings Everyone has played one game Contact/Follow @JeremyMauss & @MWCwire Yeah, it is still early Now that every team has played a game we have a little bit of data and can make some snap judgements and rank …

12. Nevada (PV: 12)

Nevada had no chance against USC. It is hard to really judge them after a game where they were fully outmatched.

11. New Mexico (PV: 11)

There is not a lot to know about Lobos after their expected blow out loss to Texas A&M.

10. Colorado State (PV: 8)

Not a lot to say in an embarrassing loss to Washington State in which the Rams gave up 50 points.

9. Hawaii (PV: 9)

Another close lose to a Power 5 team but the upside is that the Warriors run-n-shoot is tearing it up. QB Brayden Schager leads the nation in total passing yards. Next achievement to unlock is a victory.

8. UNLV (PV: 10)

Wins matter and even though the Rebels only beat Bryant from the FCS level, they put up 44 points and that is good enough to rise up a bit.

7. San Jose State (PV: 5)

The Spartans are 0-2 after playing two really good Pac-12 teams, but at some point San Jose State needs to get some wins. Despite the 0-2 start, this team has potential to be dangerous.

6. Utah State (PV: 7)

Yup, the Aggies move up even after a loss. Utah State losing 24-14 to Iowa is not that bad of a defeat. It looked bad being down 14-0 very early but Utah State was able to hang around after a slow start.

5. Boise State (PV: 1, 1 first-place vote)

The Broncos were boat-raced by a potential College Football Playoff team in its 56-19 loss. Boise State is very, very likely not as bad as this game showed but there is a lot to work on. They get a chance against a UCF team that also put up over 50 points in its win last week over Kent State.

The voting was also all over the place by earning a first place through seven place vote.

4. San Diego State (PV: 4, 1 first-place votes)

The Aztecs 36-28 win over Idaho State was not all that impressive but they avoided the FCS upset. More will be known when San Diego State hosts UCLA this weekend.

3. Wyoming (PV: 6, 1 first-place vote)

The Cowboys were tough by not folding after being down 17-0 in the first quarter against Texas Tech. Then came back to win it in overtime. Is the hype real?

2. Air Force (PV: 3, 1 first-place vote)

The Falcons were already ranked high and did what they were supposed to do by dominating Robert Morris in Week 1. There will be a little bit of a tougher challenge as they take on new FBS team Sam Houston State.

1. Fresno State (PV: 1, 9 first-place votes)

The offense balled out by new quarterback Mikey Keene who was making all the throws to help the Bulldog upset Purdue on the road. The running game is better than expected after losing Jordan Mims.
