Website lists Hubert Davis as on the hot seat

A college basketball insider says that UNC coach Hubert Davis could be on the hot seat if the Tar Heels miss the tournament again.

North Carolina basketball head coach Hubert Davis is entering his third season with the program and it’s a very important one.

After taking North Carolina to the national championship game in his first season, the Tar Heels missed out on the NCAA Tournament a year ago as the preseason No. 1 team in the country. Davis enters this season with a lot of new faces as the Tar Heels lost eight players to the transfer portal while welcoming in five more as well as a two-man class in 2023.

As UNC returns Armando Bacot and R.J. Davis as the lone starters, there’s a lot of pressure on Davis and the team to succeed. But is the coach on the hot seat?

Trilly Donovan, a Twitter user who has broken news around college basketball wrote on the ACC and the coaches going into 2023. In the section of on the hot seat, he mentions Davis:

North Carolina became the first preseason No. 1 to miss the NCAA Tournament since the field expanded in 1985. Hubert Davis finds himself in a “prove it” year just two seasons removed from making the national championship game. The Carolina faithful know the Heels have played approximately four weeks of good basketball in the Davis era and they won’t tolerate another season of mediocrity. UNC revamped the roster this off-season and they look like a tournament team on paper. If the Tar Heels miss the dance again, it could lead to a massive overhaul in Chapel Hill.

That’s certainly an interesting note from someone who has legit sources inside the college basketball world.

It’s not really a secret that Davis needs to turn things around and get back to the tournament. But would UNC really make a move if he fails in 2024?
