Weather delays SEC opener at Florida while Reed starts as Texas A&M QB instead of Weigman

The highly anticipated SEC opener between Texas A&M and Florida got off to an exciting start before Mother Nature brought it to a halt.

The highly anticipated SEC opener between the Texas A&M football team at Florida on national television got off to an exciting start before Mother Nature brought it to an anticlimactic halt.

The conference clash between the Aggies (1-1) and Gators (1-1) on ABC is in a weather delay due to lightning, as it has been since approximately 3:30 p.m. CT. According to ESPN studio host Kevin Negandhi, the game is scheduled to resume at 4:17 p.m. CT.

Texas A&M leads 10-0 after one quarter of play. The major storyline of the matchup thus far is the play of redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed, who started for Conner Weigman due to a shoulder injury.

The junior QB came into Saturday’s contest as a game-time decision and, despite suiting up, Weigman was held out due to precautionary reasons. According to ESPN sideline reporter Katie George, Weigman suffered an AC joint injury in his throwing shoulder during the season-opening loss versus Notre Dame.

Reed is currently 8-of-10 for 94 yards and 1 touchdown.
