The Oklahoma Sooners kept their winning streak going on Tuesday against the Providence Friars. The Sooners moved to 8-0 on the season with their 72-51 win.
The Sooners shot 46.7% from the field but struggled from three, shooting only 31.6%. But it was on the glass where the Sooners dominated. They outrebounded the Friars 40 to 23 and had a 10-to-one advantage on the offensive glass.
Milos Uzan talked after the game about how important it was for the guards to help control the glass. “They were taking long shots and that came with long rebounds,” Uzan said. “Our bigs were boxing their bigs out, and I felt like the rebounds were just coming to us. I feel like it helped a lot with everyone boxing out.”
Uzan and Javian McCollum combined for 19 rebounds in the game. Uzan’s 12 rebounds led the entire team.
The Sooners continued their great defensive play. They turned the Friars over 15 times in the game. Uzan and McCollum combined for seven steals. They forced five turnovers in the first four minutes of the game.
“We take pride in defending,” Uzan said. “I feel like all five guys are connected. We played with great energy to start the game, and I feel like we turned those defensive turnovers to offensive points. It created a good start for us.”
The Sooners are back in action against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT.
