The college basketball season is still months away for Texas A&M, but we’re already getting a glimpse of the team’s mindset heading into a significant 2023-24 campaign.
Aggie hoops head coach Buzz Williams held his Buzz’s Bunch charity softball game on Friday, which took place at Davis Diamond in College Station. Williams established Buzz’s Bunch in 2008 to help children with special needs come together socially through basketball.
Friday’s game was the charity’s first softball exhibition and was hosted by the Texas A&M men’s basketball team. While the competition was all in good fun for a great cause, as all proceeds from the event benefit Buzz’s Bunch, it was the players’ team that put on a show, dominating with a 21-9 victory over the coaches’ squad.
After the festivities, Coach Buzz took a moment to speak with the media about the significance of the charity event, which basketball players stood out for him, as well as the expectations for the team heading into the new season. Of course, it’s hard to pick holes in a 25-10 campaign (15-3 SEC), but nonetheless, the Aggies know they are only scratching the surface of this team’s full potential.
As Williams noted last week, it’s time for this team to not just reach the SEC title game, but get the job done and bring home the hardware to College Station. An NCAA tournament appearance is no longer wishful thinking for this team; rather, it’s standard and should be a precursor to a deep run in the postseason.
Those are lofty goals, but this basketball roster returns a plethora of returning production, it boasts arguably one of the best backcourts in the country and has already been forecasted as a top-25 team in preseason rankings. The pieces are there for success, now it’s up to Coach Buzz and this team to put it all together.
