Add this to the growing list of things that might have been, had a global pandemic not ruined everything.
In a new interview with GolfTV, Tiger Woods revealed if the Masters Tournament had happened this week, as was originally scheduled, he would have been healthy and ready to go.
Woods’ health and back problems have long been an issue, limiting his ability to play over the last several years. Earlier this year, Woods already pulled out of the Players Championship and one other tournament because of issues with his back. Yet, he says the coronavirus shutdown has actually afforded him the time to train and get his body back into shape.
“Night and day. I feel a lot better than I did then, I’ve been able to turn a negative into a positive and been able to train a lot and get my body to where I think it should be at. I’ve been able to play some golf,” he said.
It seems like a lifetime ago but Woods won the Masters just last year, though he admits that this is not how he hoped to hang on to the green jacket for a little bit longer.
“This is not the way that I would’ve wanted to keep the jacket for a longer period of time. I wanted to get out there and compete for it and earn it again, like I did in ’02. But it’s not a normal circumstance, it’s not a normal world. It’s a very fluid environment, and it’s very different for all of us.”
Like everyone else, Woods is making the best of our new normal, and even threw himself the traditional Champions Dinner that happens at Augusta National. The family all got into the spirit of things, wearing green and even making a replica trophy.

All hope is not lost for the Masters to happen this year though. Organizers hope to run the event in November and hopefully Tiger will be just as healthy.
