Tennessee track and field athlete Wayne Pinnock has been named SEC Frehman of the week following his performance at the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn.
Pinnock, who made his 2022 outdoor debut at the meet and saw his first action since winning the men’s indoor long jump national championship in March, posted a mark of 8.06 meters (26 feet, 5.5 inches) to win the long jump competition.
Pinnock, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, now leads the SEC and is tied for the best wind-legal jump in the nation.
His effort at Auburn set a Volunteers’ freshman record in the outdoor long jump, breaking Greg Neal’s 40-year old record.
Neal leapt 7.89 meters (25-10.75) in 1982.
