Watching Caleb Williams is always fun, but it will be especially true in 2023

Caleb Williams showed the Pac-12 what he could do last year. How will the Pac-12 respond to his brilliance in 2023?

Caleb Williams’ excellence speaks for itself. We don’t have to describe it. You all saw it in the 2022 college football season. What will be especially fun about watching Williams in 2023 has less to do with the great throws he will make or the dazzling scrambles he will pull off. What will make this year particularly enjoyable and entertaining is the larger dynamic surrounding Williams himself.

Zachary Neel of Ducks Wire wrote this about Williams in a recent overview of Pac-12 quarterbacks for 2023:

“Do you need me to list his accolades again? Let’s be real. Caleb Williams won the most prestigious award in college football last year, and he’s attempting to become the second player ever to win it in back-to-back years this season. With the USC Trojans’ prolific offense under Lincoln Riley, there’s no doubt in my mind that anyone who follows college football already knows who Williams is.”

That’s it. That’s the point. Williams is such a known entity in college football right now that he will be the most scrutinized player in the country. Everyone knows what he does well. Williams will try to flourish in spite of being the target of every opposing game plan.

Watching Williams this year will be like watching the pitcher who throws 102-mile-per-hour fastballs down the heart of the plate and dares hitters to do something about it. Everyone will want to stop him; can Caleb Williams dominate anyway. That’s why this season will be fun.
