WATCH: Vikings FB CJ Ham blocks 49ers’ punt during the first quarter

On the second drive of the game for the 49ers, CJ Ham came through in a major way for the Vikings.

The Vikings have a tall task ahead of them by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The 49ers  and Vikings offenses haven’t been too electric to start the game, but so far, Minnesota is the team making the big play(s).

On the 49ers’ second possession of the game, the Vikings’ defense held San Francisco to a punt attempt. Minnesota fullback CJ Ham got through the right part of the offensive line and came through for a major block. It marked the first time the Vikings blocked and recovered a punt since Sept. 8, 2019, against Atlanta.

The Vikings’ offense would move the football into the 49ers’ territory and get into the red zone, but Sam Darnold wasn’t able to connect for a touchdown on third down. Minnesota would settle for a 22-yard field goal by rookie Wil Reichard.

The Vikings are leading the 49ers 3-0 late into the first quarter. So far, the Vikings are looking like the team that wants to win the game. Minnesota will need more game-changing plays as the game progresses to beat a team like the 49ers.
