North Carolina took a big step forward in its quest to cut down the nets this April in Phoenix. After a slow start in Saturday’s second-round game, the Tar Heels took control with a 23-3 run against Michigan State.
They held a 40-31 lead at halftime and never looked back. In the end, North Carolina left Charlotte with a double-digit win and a trip to Los Angeles for the Sweet 16. The Tar Heels celebrated in the locker room after punching their ticket to the next round:

While there was a celebration, head coach Hubert Davis made the message clear: There is more work to be done. The Tar Heels can’t lose sight of the bigger picture and while it’s OK to celebrate now, they have to take care of business next week in Los Angeles.
The Tar Heels await the winner of Grand Canyon and Alabama in Los Angeles either Thursday or Friday.
