NASCAR entered Phoenix Raceway expecting drama on the race track with its three championships; however, it took an unexpected twist on Sunday afternoon. Before the start of Stage 2 in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix, the pace car dove late with one lap to go and made contact with the sand barrels at the entry of pit road.
It was a shocking development that forced NASCAR to red-flag the race to clean up and fix the barrels. At first, it looked like Chase Elliott made contact with the pace car, but it simply made a very hard left turn and was unable to make it to pit road in time. It was a good moment for the Championship 4 drivers and other competitors to distress before Stage 2.
