WATCH: The incredible moment Luke Schoonmaker was picked by the Cowboys

This is a beautiful, must-see moment! #GoBlue

When you’re a three-star high school recruit in New England ranked in the 700s, the dream of hearing your named called by an NFL team in the draft is more fantasy than reality.

But Michigan football tight end Luke Schoonmaker didn’t just get picked in the 2023 NFL draft, he went in the second round to America’s team.

The Dallas Cowboys selected two consecutive Wolverines in the first two rounds. Schoonmaker being the pick in the latter round. Mazi Smith went in the first round.

Unless they’re expected to go in the first round, prospects tend to not be on-site, so Schoonmaker, who was projected as high as the third round, was waiting with his family and friends at home.

The reaction of his phone call and the announcement found their way onto Twitter, and it’s priceless.

It’s a cool moment for a tight end who was perpetually underrated throughout every stage of his career.

Schoonmaker is actually the highest-picked Michigan tight end since Bennie Joppru was selected in the second round with the 41st pick in 2003.
