For many, the inclusion of Boston Celtics third-year big man Bruno Fernando in the deal that sent veteran center Tristan Thompson to the Sacramento Kings this offseason was something of a footnote, with point guard Kris Dunn being the noteworthy return from the trade.
But many of those same fans have since taken note of the potential the Luanda, Angola native flashed in his time in 2021 Las Vegas Summer League play with the Celtics, where he averaged 9.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2 assists per game in 17.6 minutes of floor time. Hyper-efficient offensively, the Maryland product shot 75% from the floor and 68.4% from the free-throw line — all very promising coming from a young center.
Watch the best of Fernando’s play with the summer Celtics in Sin City this year to get more acquainted with the 6-foot-9 center’s game in this clip assembled by YouTuber Tomasz Kordylewski.
While it isn’t set in stone he’ll be on the roster come opening night, he looks very much like a player worth giving some run to if he is.
