Sometimes, it’s good to get nostalgic.
Alabama is gearing up to play its first NCAA Tournament game as a No. 2 seed since the 2001-02 season, and it’s only the third time in school history the Crimson Tide has been given that high of a seed.
There’s excitement in the air as Alabama inches closer to that 3 p.m. CT ( 4 p.m. ET) tipoff against No. 15 seed Iona, who is coached by Rick Pitino.
With there being some nostalgia in the air, it should also be noted that the Crimson Tide football team just got spring practice underway. And that got me reflecting on the past a little bit.
Then it hit me. I wanted to go back and share that first ever touchdown of the Nick Saban era at the University of Alabama. In going back, I quickly realized first touchdown also meant first play from scrimmage.
After an impressive kickoff return from cornerback/return man Javier Arenas that got Alabama past midfield, running back Terry Grant took it 47 yards to the house on the very next play.
Yes, it was against a Western Carolina team that had gone winless the season before, but you wouldn’t know it watching the fans in the stands. This was a program that had been lying dormant for too long, and the fan base was hungry.
In fact, they were starving, and you can feel that energy in the clip. Check it out.

Bama fans didn’t care though. They were hungry and you can feel that energy in this clip. Everyone knew things were different but no one saw this coming. pic.twitter.com/zuDUEiawJu

Incredible, right? There weren’t any fans leaving at halftime back then. It’s so cool to go back and relive incredible moments like this, so we’ll be sharing some more in near future!
