We all remember it.
Cam Newton’s 49-yard run vs LSU in 2010 was a legendary moment in the history of Auburn football.
I was at this game with my mother and I remember leaning over to tell her in the middle of a very loud Jordan-Hare Stadium, “He just won the Heisman.”
I think everyone there thought the same thing. After the game, we were at a local sports bar called Loco’s, which sadly is no longer open in Auburn. Several of the televisions had “Sportcenter” on and Newton popped on the screen to talk about the win and the place went quiet. You could hear a pin drop in what was a very lively place to be just seconds before. Everyone in Auburn knew something special was happening.
And we were right.
Looking back at what was on the line, the prowess of the LSU defense, and how Newton brought an elite Patrick Peterson, with him into the endzone, it was one of the best plays from the 2010 National Championship season.
Auburn beat LSU 24-17 on October 23rd, 2010.
Relive the moment below before Auburn takes on LSU tonight in Baton Rouge.
