Winged Foot Golf Club is expected to provide an unparalleled challenge to the field over the course of the week at the U.S. Open, but players out on the course in the morning window on Thursday have been taking advantage of some prime scoring conditions.
There has only been one ace recorded at the U.S. Open in the last five tournaments, but Patrick Reed only needed a couple hours to dunk in a hole-in-one at the par-3 7th. Reed hit a slight draw that tracked straight to the flag, took one big bounce on the green and dove into the cup.

Through nine holes on Thursday, the surprise leader of the tournament is amateur Davis Thompson, a Georgia Bulldog who played his opening nine at 3-under par.
