The Panthers haven’t had a real playmaker at tight end since Greg Olsen’s last fully healthy season back in 2016.
Olsen was never quite the same after a foot injury the next year and he announced his retirement yesterday just before the NFC Championship. When he was in his prime, Olsen was the most consistent and productive tight end in the league. The team shared this tribute to No. 88 on Sunday.
Thank you for the clutch third-down catches, the unmatched knowledge of the playbook and the endless laughs.#KeepPounding @gregolsen88 pic.twitter.com/GxpeHPtEc1

Olsen was a three-time Pro Bowler and the first tight end in NFL history to post three straight seasons of 1,000 or more yards. It may prove difficult for this franchise to find another one as good.
