Watch Notre Dame’s 4th quarter full personnel switch trick play on 4th down vs. Georgia

Was this the biggest play of the game?

With the game winding down, Notre Dame football saw the Georgia Bulldogs trying to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter.

The SEC champion was knocking on the door, as they had driven inside the red zone, looking for more than a field goal. The Irish defense held on 4th down, and with under 10-minutes left in the game, they need to run the clock as much as possible.

The first play was promising, a Jadarian Price run for 5-yards. He’d get the ball again on second-down, this time only gaining 2. On third-down a short pass to Aneyas Williams netted just 2-yards, setting up a 4th-and-three.

This is when it got interesting. The Irish would do a full hockey-style change, all eleven players who were initially on the field came off, with a new 11 coming in.

It completely confused the Bulldogs, as now the Irish offense, not special teams unit, was still on the field. Quarterback Riley Leonard would make a perfect hard-count, Georgia jumped, and the Irish snapped the ball to a flag for offsides.

The Irish would be rewarded a first-down, and would milk off another 6-plus minutes of the clock, essentially icing the game. Watch the viral trick play here that helped Notre Dame advance to the CFP semifinals.
