Notre Dame has lost some coaches since the 2021 season ended. Although just about everyone not named Brian Kelly stuck around for the Fiesta Bowl, it was unreasonable to think that would stay the same in 2022. After all, some were looking to move on, and it afforded the opportunity for Marcus Freeman to pick his own coaches to fill the gaps. One coach not going anywhere is director of football performance Matt Balis, and he explained why as he spoke with the media:

Balis will be entering his sixth season with the Irish, and it’s great to know he doesn’t plan on going anywhere. That sense of loyalty hopefully will ensure that Freeman and any other head coach that comes through South Bend in the years to come won’t want him to leave. But whatever happens, Balis can be happy that he landed his dream job, which is something that everyone aspires to achieve.
