On Sunday, Rutgers football continued to add to their roster with the addition of long snapper Austin Riggs out of the transfer portal. Riggs spent the last four years at BYU and is coming off one of the best seasons of his career as he was named a Phil Steele All-American (fourth team) following the 2023 season.
While Riggs brings plenty of experience, he is also known for his
athleticism. That was on display this past September when BYU took on Cincinnati. In the third quarter, the Idaho native played a key role in a Bearcats turnover.
Riggs made quite the nice play to secure the loose ball.
With BYU leading 28-20, Cincinnati muffed a punt with less than four seconds left in the third quarter. When chaos ensued, Riggs jumped on the ball and recovered the fumble. As a result, BYU got excellent field position and a prime opportunity to increase its lead.
Nice speed from Riggs to cover ground quickly and then be able to quickly react and make that play.

Although Rutgers fans will have to wait till April’s annual spring game to see Riggs in action, he will be a huge help on special teams. His athleticism is something that few long snappers have.
