For the third straight week, the North Carolina Tar Heel football team found themselves in the win column, moving to 3-0 on the year. The win over Minnesota was a big one for the Tar Heels, beating a 2-0 Gophers team ahead of next week’s ACC opener on the road.
With the run game struggling, the Tar Heels turned to quarterback Drake Maye who threw for 400-plus yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense.
But defensively, the Tar Heels turned it up a notch by allowing just 13 points and intercepting two passes on the day. The defense was able to turn away Minnesota a few different times and make stops when needed.
After the game, the locker room got emotional as Mack Brown and Tim Cross presented the game ball to Mitch Mason. Watch as Mason receives the ball and delivers a speech:

Mason has served as North Carolina’s football team chaplain for 11 years but has battled idiopathic small fiber neuropathy. It’s an incurable nerve disorder that prevents him from getting out of bed without assistance.
Mason has gone through a lot over the last three years but to see him on the sidelines this year and receiving the game ball after this win is awesome and it’s well much deserved.
