Two weeks ago, Mike Brey visited a Notre Dame dining hall to drum up support for his team’s ACC home opener. The act appeared to have helped because students turned out to Purcell Pavilion in droves, and Brey personally thanked them after the victory. It appears his new hands-on approach to the student body is sticking around because he took to the dining halls again to promote Wednesday’s game against NC State. This time, he decided he would test out how he is at tossing T-shirts:
The flair on @NDMikeBrey's T-shirt toss is 𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲 🎯
Wouldn't be a home game week without a visit to the dining halls to see our 𝘀𝗶𝘅𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗮𝗻! See you all tomorrow vs. NC State ✊#GoIrish | @LepLegion pic.twitter.com/00x0RdcFSt

One can’t help but love this version of Brey. With everything he has to do as coach, he’s finding time to connect with the people who make every home game feel cozier for the Irish. There needs to be more stories of prominent college basketball coaches doing things like this. Then again, you also can afford to do them when you’ve lost only once since the week of Christmas.
