Watch: Max Melton blocks a punt, Timmy Ward recovers for a Rutgers football touchdown

Rutgers football got a huge block from Max Melton to level the score against No. 5 Michigan.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Rutgers football knotted the game with 5:04 left in the first quarter, a Max Melton blocked punt and Timmy Ward scooped up the ball for a special teams touchdown against No. 5 Michigan.

The score leveled the game after Michigan scored on their opening drive.

On the blocked punt, defensive back Blake Corum made a late run down the middle, completely unopposed by Michigan’s punt formation. Melton blocked punter Brad Robbins’ effort with Timmy Ward there to scoop up the bouncing ball and run it seven yards for the touchdown.

Rutgers comes into Saturday night’s game against one of the best teams in the nation, looking to better their performance from a week ago. Last Saturday’s 31-0 loss at Minnesota saw Rutgers manage just seven first downs and 134 yards of total offense.
