WATCH: Larry Bird and the Boston Celtics raise Banner 15 to the rafters

The team honored their 1984 title at the start of the 1984-85 season.

The Boston Celtics have won an NBA-record 17 titles, a feat only matched by their longtime rival Los Angeles Lakers. Boston won three of those banners during the playing career of Celtics legend Larry Bird in the 1980s — one in 1981, another in 1984 and the third in 1986.

Banner No. 15 was hung at the start of the 1984-85 NBA season. During a major ceremony, it was raised to the rafters before Boston pulverized the Cleveland Cavaliers to start the season 1-0 and begin the quest for the 16th and final banner won during The Hick From French Lick’s tenure with the Celtics.
