LaMelo Ball had his best performance of the season for the Hornets against the Mavericks on Wednesday. Coming off the bench, Ball scored 22 points with nine rebounds and five assists, flirting with his first career double-double in a 118-99 win.
Ball shot 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 from 3 in his efficient night. He also notched a block and a steal and finished with a plus-minus of plus-8.
His performance was not just impressive but also historic. He became the first Hornets rookie since Kemba Walker in 2012 to record 15 points, five assists and five rebounds in a game. Likewise, he became the first Hornets rookie since Kendall Gill in 1991 to record 20 points with five rebounds and five assists off the bench.
Ball helped the Hornets bench score 42 first-half points and 60 total in the victory. Miles Bridges scored 20 points with 16 rebounds off the bench as well.
