Former Clemson wide receiver Justyn Ross is already catching the attention of star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent, Ross participated in rookie minicamp and is now at organized team activities (OTAs). Although most undrafted free agents fail to make the roster, many analysts believe Ross has an excellent chance to earn a spot on Kansas City’s final 53-man-roster.
Although the 6-foot-4 receiver was considered a first-round lock after an impressive freshman campaign, Ross ultimately went undrafted due to injury concerns. Along with a foot injury sustained last season, Ross also missed his entire junior season because of a congenital spinal fusion that required surgery. According to Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, only four teams medically cleared Ross during the draft process.
Despite the injury concerns and some rust early on in camp, Ross has shown flashes of his skill, impressing Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and even Mahomes.
Here’s Ross’ one-handed catch during OTAs and Mahomes’ compliment toward the rookie.
