WATCH: Jimbo Fishers’ Post-Game Press Conference after loss to Auburn

Could it honestly get any worse for Texas A&M at this point? After losing their sixth straight game for the first time since the 1972 season, yes, 50 years ago to be exact, the Aggies will miss bowl season for the first time in nearly 14 years, and changes within the program are inevitable after the season finale against LSU on Nov. 26th.

Without getting off point, Texas A&M fell to the Auburn Tigers on Saturday night, who came into the contest with identical records at 3-6 and 1-5 in the SEC. The spotlight once again shined on freshman quarterback Conner Weigman, who made his second career start with the program after missing last weekend’s game due to a flu outbreak within the team’s locker room. After a week of hearing how “determined” the team was to get back on track and try to win their last three games to reach bowl eligibility, it looked like some of them didn’t get the message, but let’s be fair; youth and attrition showed it’s ugly hand once again on both sides of the ball.

In yet another putrid performance from the run defense, which allowed 270 rushing yards on the night, two interceptions on the night from Demani Richardson and Edgerrin Cooper gave the offense a chance to capitalize, but due to poor offensive line play that has become a weekly story time and time again, Weigman’s only touchdown on the night came in the final minute of the fourth quarter finding senior wide receiver Jalen Preston on a strike in the endzone, as offensive consistency was very hard to find throughout the night.

One of the most confusing storylines on the night was the disappearance of star wide receiver Moose Muhammad III, who was not injured, and was even dressed out on the sideline, but did not play a single snap as head coach Jimbo Fisher declined to give reasoning after the game.

However, according to Muhammad, his benching was a result of wearing the wrong type of sleeves going into the game. This was also the team’s first game without running back Devon Achane this season whose presence on the ground was sorely missed, though backup Amari Daniels did rush for 83 on the night in an impressive effort.

With two games left for the Aggies this season, the message is simple: Play for each other, and look forward to a hopefully much improved 2023 season, but changes are coming in more ways than one. After the game, head coach Jimbo Fisher spoke to the media, and here is what he had to say:
