All-Star Boston Celtics small forward Jayson Tatum might not have started out as hot as Celtics fans would have liked, but there’s no way they would have won this seeding game against the Orlando Magic Sunday without him.
The Duke product had a quiet start against the closest thing to a hometown team in the Disney restart, but began to heat up in the second half.
As Boston struggled to put Orlando away — the Magic even seizing a multiple-possession lead late in the fourth quarter — Tatum came alive, scoring the requisite buckets to force an extra period.
He’d shine in overtime as well, finishing with a healthy 29 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.
While it’s far from desirable that the Celtics were in need of ‘saving’ against eight-place Orlando, it’s still good to see that the Missourian wing can crank it up a notch when he needs to to secure the win with the game on the line.
