WATCH: James Franklin does push-ups on sideline after getting penalty

Watch James Franklin punish himself with push-ups on the Penn State sideline.

There are times when tensions and emotions get the best of a coach and it costs his team a penalty. Such was the case late in the first half of Penn State’s home game against Maryland when [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, costing his team 15 yards of field position. But Franklin led by example and punished himself when the drive was over.

Franklin dropped on the sideline and went through a series of push-ups after Penn State kicked a field goal to go up 24-0 on visiting Maryland. I lost count of how many pushups Franklin completed, although it looked like he managed the reps just fine before getting back up and rallying his team for the next series.

This was certainly a light-hearted moment with Penn State leading 24-0, but also a good example that nobody on the team, even the head coach, will rise above a little disciplinary action.

Would he have done it with Penn State down 24-0? Probably not. But when you are up by four scores, you can take a little time to lead by example and laugh it off afterward.
