The last time we saw Andy Ruiz Jr. in the ring he was a bloated 283½ pounds last year, evidence that he didn’t train properly for his rematch with Anthony Joshua in December.
The result? Joshua won a wide decision to avenge his knockout loss against Ruiz and regain his heavyweight titles.
Ruiz seems to have learned his lesson. The now-former champ began working in the camp of trainer Eddy Reynoso, the trainer of Canelo Alvarez and other top fighters. And he evidently has been cutting weight. He says he has lost 20 pounds.
He said along with the workout video below, which he posted on Instagram, that it hasn’t been easy.

“We’re working hard getting ready for whoever is next thanks thanks to GOD we in the right track,” he wrote.
The Sun also quoted Ruiz as saying: “It’s hard man. I have never done this in my whole life. Never lift weights, never had a physical trainer like they are doing. … It’s time to execute, time to get it back, time to work hard.”
Ruiz doesn’t know who he will fight next but Eddie Hearn, who promotes, said he believes Ruiz is a good candidate to face his heavyweight Dillian Whyte.
