Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts has been given public support from about every person who has followed his story.
A new one happened on Friday, from a place familiar to Hurts.
Channelview Independent School District in Channelview, Texas—the home of Hurts—tweeted out its support of their former student athlete and now Oklahoma’s Heisman Trophy finalist in a video on Friday.

“Jalen, on behalf of the school district, the students, the staff, the school of trustees and the entire community of Channelview ISD, congratulations on your nomination for a Heisman finalist,” said Channelview superintendent Greg Ollis and a cast of others from Channelview. “Cindi and I think you are a remarkable young man and everyone here is extremely proud of you and wish you good luck Saturday and in the Peach Bowl.”
Channelview, Texas, is a suburb on the east side of Houston.
Hurts played for his dad, Averion, at Channelview. He remains the head coach at Channelview High School.
In his high school career, Hurts threw for 3,523 yards, rushed for 1,747 and accounted for 67 touchdowns in two varsity seasons, according to MaxPreps.com. He signed with Alabama after his senior year.
Now at Oklahoma, Hurts became the fifth Heisman finalist for the Sooners in four years. Although he is unlikely to win it, Hurts would not be in this position if it weren’t for his graduate transfer from Alabama to Oklahoma.
The Heisman finalist responded to his old school district’s video of support later Friday afternoon.
