The 2024 college football season is upon us, and for Texas A&M, Mike Elko’s official introduction as the program’s newest head coach will begin with a primetime showdown against Notre Dame inside a likely jam packed Kyle Field.
As the Aggies set to embark on their first weekend fall practice this year, things are slowly beginning to come together on both sides of the ball, led by starting quarterback Conner Weigman’s return to the lineup while a litany of new faces from the transfer portal and 2024 recruiting class have excited the fan base for what’s to come this season.
While the team has Friday off after two consecutive practice days, Texas A&M’s media staff released a snippet of Elko’s recent pre-practice speech to his team and coaching staff, as the longtime defensive assistant has continued to instill his blue-collar, tough, and resilient approach to working toward a National Championship.
“When I say this, everyone answers this: Do you want to win the Natty this year?” Elko stated. “Everybody does that, across America today 132 teams did that. Not everyone will watch film, not everyone will come to practice. With the right mindset to improve and get better, that’s where the difference is.”
“The pace that we go at, the tempo that we go in, what we are pushing you guys to do, it’s all designed to make the game feel easier” Elko stated. “When you get in the game, you just cut it loose, you don’t even think, and you never wear down. You never get tired.”
Texas A&M will open the 2024 season vs. Notre Dame on Saturday, August 31, as the game will air on ABC at 6:30 p.m. CT.
