While most of us unfortunately got to know Boston Celtics rookie forward Grant Williams by his inability to connect from deep early in the season, it distracted us from the surprisingly mature defensive game he showed up with.
The Tennessee product quickly earned himself playing time in Boston’s rotation not only by not making the typical errors rookies make in their first season in the association, but by demonstrating an advanced skill at locking down attacking opponents by being in the right place at the right time.
By the time the coronavirus pandemic forced the suspension of the 2019-20 NBA season, the former Volunteer had become a key part of the Celtics rotation, able to play across three positions in short stints without giving up much on the defensive side of the court.
